Profile: Les Howard Keeping Dreams in Focus
As a Jr. High School student I accompanied my dad on one of his many assignments photographing world heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano at his training camp at the preeminent, world class, Grossinger Hotel and CountryClub. Twenty years later, in 1976, I created the original for this image of the then World Champion Mohammed Ali... then and now one of the most recognizable faces on the planet. Ali's training sessions were open to the public and press as an activity and attraction at the Concord Resort Hotel. Both hotels are now closed with the Concord slated to be rebuilt as a modern upscale spa and resort. My assignment was to document all aspects of the resort for sales/marketing, advertising and public-relations purposes. I worked directly for the owners of the resort, the executive director, the PR firm and ad agency. Photos were used in the "I Love New York" campaign, print and TV ads, magazine articles, press releases, brochures, and press syndication.
